Which Came First

Originally posted Nov. 10, 2005

As you know, there's been a lot of debate surrounding teaching creationism, intelligent design and evolution in schools. Last night I posed this question:

What if God created evolution?

It's kind of a chicken-or-the-egg scenario, if you think about it. If God existed first, then he could create evolution. But if man evolved into an intelligent being, he could then create the concept of God and religion.

I was brought up Catholic and now consider myself pretty non-denominational Christian. I do believe in God, and I do believe in creationism (to a certain extent...perhaps not the way the Bible puts it). But I also believe that evolution is real. Therefore, I ask, what if God created evolution?

I often wonder why there is no "middle movement" of people who believe in both. I mean, you've got your intelligent design/creationism group, and your evolution group. Obviously, it's spiritual vs. scientific. How come there's no real vocal group that believes in both the spiritual and the scientific?

Or maybe there is and I haven't done enough research. I'm pretty much writing this on the fly. But during all the of the debate, I'd say I haven't heard anything from anyone who believes in both. Although I do remember that a few years ago, the Pope said the Catholic Church accepts (in part, I think) the theory of evolution.

I propose a middle ground for those who believe both in God and evolution. We could call it Creution.

Did anyone see last night's "Trading Spouses"? How freaky was that lady? I ended up feeling sorry for both families that had to deal with her. Forget allocating money for her gastric bypass...the woman needs some heavy therapy!
