Not-Quite-Spring Cleaning

Originally posted Jan. 31, 2006

The cleaning bug bit me today, and I decided to try and tidy up the newsroom. You wouldn't believe the crap I have been finding in here all day. Rubberbands that could challenge diamonds in hardness. A waterbottle with mysterious liquid in it, sitting at a desk no one's used in three years. Baseball cards and coins. $2.31 in change (including a gold Sacagawea dollar). An anniversary card to a previous sports editor that contained a risqué photo of his wife on a bed (at which we all had a ROUSING laugh). Brand-new keyboards and other equipment that have been hiding all over the office. I threw away mail crates (yes, that's plural mail crates) of papers dating back to 1996. Steno pads, paper clips, envelopes, a toy elephant, a nine-part documentary on managing feral cats, mouse pads, timecards....the list goes on and on. I found it all today.

And ya know what? There's even more stuff to go through tomorrow. My hands are black. That's disgusting. I really hate cleaning other people's shit.
