Hmmm

Originally posted Dec. 9, 2005

Why aren't tires solid? If they were, we'd have to buy tires much less often because the wear wouldn't compromise the tire's integrity as much and punctures wouldn't cause flats.

Of course, that would increase the amount of rubber produced for tires nationwide, but people wouldn't be buying tires as often, so that would translate into a decrease in total amount of tires produced per year. I know that would put a lot of tire distributors out of business, but waste not want not, right? As a nation, we should be trending towards decreasing the production of things that damage the environment. Burning tires is like the worst thing for the ozone. Ugh. And even though we are a capitalist society always seeking profit and working for the almighty dollar, we should also be thinking about our environment and future.

I propose the solid tire as a start. I'm sure there are much better ideas out there. To those of you who may say that solid tires would add weight to a car and also create a bumpier ride, I say....just use a lighter rubber that can withstand some use. We can invent robots that operate on people. Why not a solid tire?

B-Money commented: You must have had a flat tire?

Kim commented: Nope...just thought it was a cool idea!

Mrs. Duhamel commented: Because if we had no flat tires, we would put a lot of tire companies and tow trucks out of business! Hasn't the economy suffered enough?
