Speaking of Taking Chances

Originally posted March 17, 2006

Today I decided to dare to be different and strayed from my usual choices at Jamba Juice. Yup, that's right, I actually got a smoothie that has bananas in it. I figured it was one I haven't tried yet, and that I soooo rarely have bananas this time it might be good for me...even if I end up not liking it.

I don't usually like bananas because they permeate everything with their flavor. To me, everything will start to have a pasty banana texture and leave a weird aftertaste. There's just no two ways about it...I really don't like bananas. I can force down just the plain fruit, but if it's mixed into something, or it's artificially banana-flavored, I will NOT have it. Ugh...I especially hate the thought of sliced bananas that have been sitting out a while and are all smushy and kind of slimy...like in fruit salad...OK, I just threw up a little in my mouth. *hurp*

However, I have to say this smoothie combination was tolerable....good, even. It had apple-strawberry juice, strawberries, bananas, ice, and a low-calorie dairy base (I always opt for the lower-calorie Jamba offerings). To me it tasted...bright. If that can even be used as a description. The apple balanced out the banana, so I didn't get a big rush of one flavor or the other. It tasted like apple sunshine! (OK, barf, I'm starting to gross myself out here.) I could even possibly see myself ordering it again.

What the hell is this world coming to...I drank bananas today. I'm so disappointed in myself. I liked it.
